Mary Prince

Landscape and still-life painter and printmaker

Mary Prince is a landscape and still-life painter and printmaker who lives in New York City and who paints in New York, Downeast Maine, and the Catskill Mountains. Exploring the dynamics of light, color, and texture of her surrounding world, her paintings and prints vigorously capture the atmospheric changes that animate nature, whether the rugged coastline and pristine islands of the Northeastern coast of Maine, the bucolic landscape of the Catskills, and the parks and waterfront of New York City. Mary’s artwork is in museums and in collections throughout the US.

She was born in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia in 1948, and grew up along the coast of Virginia and North Carolina. She holds an MA from Columbia University. She has lived in the Belnord since 1977. Her husband, Joel Kendall, joined her in 1980.
